About Colossus of Rhodes
One of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. A bronze statue of the sun god Helios about 108 feet tall. Built to celebrate the survival of Rhodes after a great siege. Stood only 56 years before an earthquake snapped its knees. Contrary to popular myth it did not straddle the harbor mouth. Legend says 900 camels were needed to haul away the scrap bronze.
