About Todai-ji
A Buddhist temple in Nara housing a giant bronze Buddha. The Daibutsuden was once the largest wooden building in the world. The current hall dates from 1709 and remains immense. The Great Buddha is nearly 50 feet tall and weighs about 500 tons. Cast in sections using vast amounts of wax. A pillar has a hole said to grant enlightenment to those who squeeze through.
