About Great Mosque of Djenne
The largest mud-brick building in the world. The present structure dates to 1907 on a site sacred since the 13th century. Built of sun-baked mud brick with projecting palm wood beams. The beams serve as permanent scaffolding for replastering. Each year the whole town joins a festival to repair the coating. A UNESCO World Heritage Site.
