About Westminster Abbey
The coronation church of English and British monarchs. Every coronation since William the Conqueror has been held here. Over 3,300 people are buried or memorialized within. Poets Corner honors Chaucer, Dickens, and Austen. The present Gothic church was begun by Henry III in 1245. The medieval Cosmati pavement before the altar is a masterpiece of mosaic. Royal weddings are celebrated here too.
