Designed by Jorn Utzon who never saw the completed building. Over 1 million tiles cover the shells. Took 16 years to build, 10 years over schedule. The original budget was 7 million, final cost was 102 million. The shells are sections of a sphere, solving the engineering problem. Over 1,500 performances annually.
