The largest church in the world. Built over the traditional tomb of Saint Peter. Michelangelo designed the dome and carved the Pieta displayed inside. Construction spanned 120 years under a parade of architects. The dome rises 448 feet to the top of its cross. Can hold 60,000 worshippers. The Swiss Guard has served here since 1506.
