About Newgrange

A passage tomb older than the pyramids and Stonehenge. At dawn on the winter solstice a beam of light travels 60 feet up the passage to light the central chamber. The mound covers over an acre with roughly 200,000 tons of earth and stone. The entrance kerbstone is richly carved with spirals. A ring of 97 kerbstones surrounds the base. Rediscovered in 1699 and fully excavated from 1962.
