About Mausoleum at Halicarnassus

One of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Built for Mausolus, the satrap of Caria, by his sister and widow Artemisia. Stood about 148 feet tall. The word mausoleum derives from his name. Decorated with hundreds of freestanding sculptures by leading Greek artists. Felled by earthquakes and later quarried for stone by the Knights of St John.
