About Chrysler Building
Briefly the tallest building at 1,046 feet before the Empire State surpassed it. The Art Deco crown has 7 terraced arches with hubcap-like ornaments. William Van Alen designed the secret spire that was assembled inside then raised through the roof to win the height race. The eagle gargoyles are modeled after Chrysler car hood ornaments.
