About Basilica Cistern
An enormous underground water hall built by Justinian I. Stores 80,000 cubic meters of water beneath 336 recycled columns. The columns were salvaged from earlier Roman temples. Two Medusa heads support column bases, one upside down and one sideways. Fish still swim in the shallow remaining water. Featured in the James Bond film From Russia with Love.
