Rises 490 feet above Athens. The Propylaea gateway took 5 years to build. The Erechtheion has the famous Caryatid porch with maiden columns. Occupied for over 5,000 years. Lord Elgin removed marble sculptures in 1801, now in the British Museum. Restoration has been ongoing since 1975.
